このような言い回しは、審査官が引用発明と審査される発明との間でそれぞれの構成要素を比較対照する際によく用いられる。「以下同様に」の後に続く後半の対比部分は、日本語原文では構成要素ごとに一対一で対応させて記載されているが、上記翻訳例のように語順を変えて発明ごとに構成要素をまとめると訳し易い。また最後の「両発明に差異はない」を“there is no difference”ではなく、“there are no differences”と複数形にする点にも注意すべきである。英語では一つもない「ゼロ」の状態を常に複数形で表現するため、例えば、リンゴを一つも持っていない状態は、“I have no apple.”でなく、“I have no apples”となる。
